Registration for Christmas Clinics underway
Classes offered throughout Southeastern Michigan, including new locations in Brighton and Ann Arbor

Suburban Hockey will hold two-day Power Skating and Puck Handling clinics for mites (ages 6-8), Power Skating & Stick Skills clinics for squirts (ages 9-10) and Checking and Scoring clinics for pee wees/bantams (ages 11-14) at the end of December at various locations.

 

The Mite Power Skating and Puck Handling Clinic will focus on individual skill development with an emphasis on balance and edge control, as well as stickhandling and puck control.

 

The Squirt Power Skating and Stick Skills Clinic will develop each player's skating skills with a focus on control, power, acceleration and speed, while enhancing individual puck sills by working on stickhandling, passing and shooting.

 

The Pee Wee-Bantam Checking and Scoring Clinic is designed to enhance the offensive and defensive skills for players, with comprehensive instruction in areas such as driving to the net, rebounding, one-time shooting, body checking technique, angling, stick checking.

 

Novi Ice Arena, the Onyx-Rochester Ice Arena, Kensington Valley Ice House in Brighton and St. Clair Shores Civic Arena will hold Christmas Clinics on December 22-23. Clinics will be held on December 29-30 at Suburban Training Center in Farmington Hills, the Ice Box Sports Center in Brownstown, Redford Arena and the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. STC in Farmington Hills and the Onyx - Rochester Ice Arena host popular on-ice sessions

Suburban Hockey will hold clinics on Friday, November 28 at Suburban Training Center in Farmington Hills and the Onyx - Rochester Ice Arena. Three different clinics will be offered at each location - Puckhandling & Playmaking, Quick & Fast and Shoot to Score.

The Puckhandling & Playmaking Clinic (10:00-11:50 AM) clinic will teach proper stickhandling, deking, faking, puck protection, forehand and backhand passing technique, touch passing, saucer passing and snap passing. In the Quick & Fast clinic (Noon-1:50 PM), the focus will be on quick starts, rapid acceleration, quick directional changes, foot quickness, lateral movement, overspeed training and full-speed puck control. The final clinic of the day will be Shoot to Score (2:00-3:50 PM), in which students will learn proper shooting technique, shooting while moving, scoring skills, wrist shots, backhanders, snap shots and slap shots (if applicable).

Players ages six and older are welcome to sign up for any and all clinics. Classes will be limited to 32 participants, and players will be grouped according to skill and experience level within the clinic.

Adult Hockey Skills Series returns for 11th year
Suburban Hockey's Breakfast Club & Prime Time Program set to drop puck in October

Registration is underway for the Breakfast Club and the Prime Time Program - Suburban Hockey's weekly skills and conditioning series for adult hockey players of all ability levels. Suburban will hold two 10-week sessions, with the first running from October-December and the second going from January-March.

The Breakfast Club, Suburban's morning program, will take place at Suburban Training Center in Farmington Hills on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the Onyx - Rochester Ice Arena and Dearborn Ice Skating Center on Thursdays. Suburban Training Center will also be the site of the Advanced Breakfast Club program on Thursdays.

New to the schedule in 2003 is a Women's Breakfast Club, which will be offered at Suburban Training Center on Tuesday mornings and the Onyx - Rochester Ice Arena on Thursday mornings.

Suburban Hockey will also offer its popular Prime Time Program at Suburban Training Center on Tuesday evenings and the Onyx - Rochester Ice Arena on Wednesday evenings.

The goals of the program are to improve players' overall knowledge of the game, teach new drills, increase enjoyment of the game, build confidence, conditioning and develop skating and puck skills in a competitive and fun environment. Coaches include former professional and collegiate players with vast coaching and playing experience.
