Suburban Hockey Schools' curriculum has been specially designed to maximize the benefit to each and every player, regardless of skill level.

Mini Mite Power Skating & Hockey School (Ages 5-6)

Classes are 50 minutes in length with players divided into small groups based on skill and experience. The program features a blend of training and skill games to create a fun and productive learning environment designed to develop the confidence and self-esteem of every player.  Skills include:

  • Forward and backward skating
  • Edgework and stopping
  • Crossovers and tight turning
  • Stickhandling
  • Passing and receiving
  • Shooting technique

Mite Power Skating and Hockey School (Ages 6-8)
Mite Power Skating & Hockey School is extremely popular with young players due to the blend of fun, hard work and training. All players should have a minimum of one year of skating experience.

All instruction takes place on ice and players are divided into small groups (maximum 6 to 1 student/instructor ratio) based on skill and experience to maximize individual attention and ensure each student is challenged to improve.

Squirt Power Skating & Hockey School (Ages 9-10)
Five-day program consisting of two 80 minute on-ice sessions each day, separated by a 45 minute off-ice training session. Players are divided into small groups based on skill and experience to maximize individual attention and ensure each student is progressing at the appropriate level.

Girls 10U Program (Ages 6-10)


This five-day program features 80 minutes of daily individual hockey skills instruction and skill games, culminating with an instructional scrimmage on Friday.

Forward/Defense School (Ages 9-14)

A player needs to have a solid comprehension of the skills and concepts for each position to be a difference maker both offensively and defensively. Training segments include: power skating technique to improve balance, strength on skates, quickness, lateral mobility and speed and the necessary positional skills and concepts of puck possession, playmaking and scoring, timing and positioning, reading the play, taking away time and space, angling and body checking technique.

Goaltending Programs  (Ages 7-16)

The SHS Goaltending School offers two levels of comprehensive instruction to ensure that goaltenders are taught and challenged to improve at the appropriate pace relative to their age and experience level. In each program, goaltenders are divided into small groups with the instruction in each skill station tailored to challenge each player individually.

Fundamental Goalie School

Open to goaltenders ages 7-12, this program focuses on laying the foundation and building upon the fundamental skills of the position. The class is designed for goalies in their first three years at the position and has a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 4-to-1. The Fundamental Goalie School features 40 minutes of off-ice training and an 80 minute on-ice session each day.

Advanced Goalie Program

Features a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 3-to-1 and is geared toward experienced goaltenders ages 9-16 who are serious about refining their physical and mental skills to take their game to the next level.

  • Mobilitystance, forward, backward and lateral movement

  • Puckhandling Ability – use of stick for saves, passing and shooting

  • Agility – glove and pad save technique, rebound control and recovery

  • Sensibility – read, recognize, react and respond, angles and positioning

  • Skill games and Martian Hockey

  • Reflex training, slideboards and physical and mental skillbuilding games

  • Videotape analysis of skills, written testing, equipment seminar

GOALIE COMBO – BEST VALUE!

Register early to avoid disappointment! Goaltenders registered for the SHS Goaltending School have the opportunity to enroll in a second week of goalie-specific training at a very nominal fee. A maximum of four openings are available in the Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee/Bantam Hockey School and Power Skating classes.

A goaltending instructor works with the goaltenders on tactical play and game-situation drills while refining skills and concepts learned during the Goaltending School week. Mite classes are 80 minutes long while Squirt and Pee Wee/Bantam classes consist of two 80-minute on-ice sessions and 45-minutes of off-ice training. See the Registration Policies section for prices and registration information.

BONUS! Goalies looking for extra ice time and plenty of shots can sign up for the following programs at no charge if they fit into the appropriate age group: Forward/Defense School and the Girls Programs. Please note that there will be no specific goalie instruction in these classes, but pre-registration is required.

Adult Breakfast Club Program (Ages 18+)
The summer Breakfast Club program is a unique ten-week class held 6:30-7:30 am, from mid-July through early September.

Each class consists of teaching segments featuring power skating, puck skills, concepts, game situations and instructional scrimmages.

Players are paired/grouped by skill and experience to ensure that they are learning and challenged to improve at their competitive level.

Discounts

Players must register at the same time to receive discounts. Discounts cannot be combined and the largest discount will be applied to your registration.

Family Discount—10% off for immediate family members.

Multiple Class Discount—10% off for players registering for two or more classes.

Team Discount—10% off each registration of five or more players from the same team. Registrations must be submitted together.

Goaltender Combo—Players who sign up for the goaltending program can also sign up to play goalie for a second week in the hockey skills program for their age group at a discount:

Registration Policies

Payment Information

Check or money order — 50% of total tuition due with registration. Balance due by two weeks prior to the beginning of the class. Registrations received after June 30 must be accompanied by full payment. A $40.00 fee will be assessed for all NSF checks.

Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express — Full payment is required on all registrations made with credit card.

Medical Conditions
Please provide written notification to Suburban Hockey Schools of any medical condition or special circumstances pertaining to the student.

Confirmation
Receipts will be sent, via email, when your registration is received. Additional information will be emailed closer to the time of the clinic. Suburban Hockey Schools reserves the right to accept or refuse application for any reason at any time. Suburban Hockey Schools reserves the right to cancel class or change class times based on enrollment. All necessary changes will be made as early as possible and all students affected will have the opportunity to move to another class or receive a full refund.

Refunds & Tuition Credits
Enrollment in each program is limited. Your payment is a commitment to attend the hockey school for which you register.

Hockey school payments, less a $40 non-refundable processing/holding fee, are refundable up until 30 days prior to the start of the hockey school. Tuition certificates will be issued for cancellations or withdrawals made 8-29 days prior to the start of hockey school. No refunds or credits are issued within for cancellations or withdrawals made 1-7 days of the start of hockey school. If it is necessary to cancel within 1-7 days of the start of hockey school for medical reasons, a credit certificate for tuition in a future SHS program will be issued.

If SHS must cancel a session and cannot find a suitable alternative, we will issue a full refund.
